The Beginning

I found most of the lessons went at a good pace and I was surprised I could keep up. The one to one help and support was valuable as well as learning new shortcuts.
The scavenger goggle piece was interesting and useful to use in a classroom setting.
I liked the concept of 'tidy folders' as mine can sometimes become a scramble! I will look at organising this sooner rather than later.
Some of the areas covered today I could see being of benefit to senior teachers and learners rather than juniors.
I liked the create part of the day when we could choose to make something useful and a poster was a
great idea.
This is what I have started to create for my junior class.

  1. Kia ora Julia,
Great to hear you felt you could keep you with the pace today. You have created a useful doc for your learners. I know the learners need constant reminders to use their manners so I see this being used a lot.

  2. Kia ora Julia,
how exciting to read about your first day at DFI. I loved DFI when I did it last year and I learnt so much! I like that way you reflected on what you covered today and how you can use it.
And yes - whilst a lot of what you cover is easily applied in a Chromebook class with older learners you will find that your own digital fluency will assist you in your job - such as creating visually appealing poster as you have done. Ka pai to mahi.
I notice that your embedded doc is very small on your post. I can help you edit this when I am with you tomorrow so that it fills the width of the post and then we can view your creation in its full glory!
I look forward to following you over the next 8 weeks as you continue DFI.

  3. Hi Julz, it's great to get on to your blog & read your reflective comments:) The DFI is sometimes a steep learning journey but one that will grow your confidence & capability. It's great that at this early stage you're picking up wee gems to use with your own students.
